A unique & exciting Assistant Quantity Surveyor role, joining our fast-paced Projects Team within the Estates, Facilities & Commercial Services department, supporting the increasing demand of the University’s Capital Projects Programme. You will be part of a growing team, responsible for supporting the Commercial Manager and Project Managers on a variety of work streams.

The Role:

You will be responsible for supporting the overall project budget management for new build and refurbishment capital development projects, supporting pre-construction work and the tender review process. The Projects that you will be involved with range in size, scale and complexity – one day working on cutting edge research laboratories, the next working on new Elite Sports performance facilities. You’ll be expected to operate with a high degree of initiative and autonomy, provide a collaborative and sometimes have a client facing focus.

Excellent communication skills will be required as you’ll be engaging with a wide range of Stakeholders across the campus, faculty and academic staff, EFCS Engineering teams and other key departments across the Estate, as well as external contractors and consultants.

Due to the nature of the role, there is a requirement for some on-campus working, and some remote working is possible subject to agreement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Commercial Manager in applying the basic principles of quantification and costing of construction works

  • Support Project Managers with financial reporting and governance of projects

  • Engage and support with the procurement lead within the Procurement Department during the tender process. Additionally, will engage with the relevant consultant teams to develop outline cost plans

  • Support the preparation, submission and approval of budgets and Project Cost plans to monitor Project performance against the agreed cost plan and budgets

  • Work hand in hand with Project Managers to ensure successful delivery of projects

  • Support the Head of Projects and the wider projects team with the financial processes related to all projects

This is an immediate requirement on a temp basis with a temp-perm opportunity available. This role would ideally suit a recent graduate with 1-2 years experience working in a construction related role. An idea of quantity surveying and project management is essential and an ambition to progress in the quantity surveying sector desirable.
