A higher education institution requires a Capital Project Manager to work on their prestigious campus in Guilford, Surrey for a minimum fo 12-month contract. A role outside of IR35 with the following brief;

The Project Manager would be required to oversee a number of refurbishment projects, including but not limited to;

  1. CL2 and CL3 Laboratories upgrade work

  2. Refurbishment of teacher spaces

  3. Refurbishment of student accommodation

The project values range and are up to the value of £1.5 million.

Responsibilities include;

  • Providing regular progress and risk updates to directors, department heads and stakeholders.

  • Leading discussions with client / stakeholders to understand requirements and budget availability.

  • Providing project briefs

  • Leading the evaluation of consultants and contractors.

  • Value engineering of costs

  • Establishing quality benchmarks

  • Ensuring all projects are completed within agreed timescales.

  • Pursuing historic contracts to ensure completion of works to agreed quality and pursuing costs.

The successful candidate will be a qualified construction project management professional (APM, RIBA, RICS or similar) with excellent post qualification experience and be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of capital development and project delivery in the education or pharmaceutical sector or similar complex environment. Completion of an HND or HNC in an engineering related subject would be beneficial and previous experience as a clerk or works, APM or Project Manager in a campus estate with a range of work essential.


As the Project Manager you will support and guide the heads of department in the management of capital projects within the estate and to provide the most practical and economic solutions for design, procurement, construction, management, commissioning and maintenance of the development. It is your role to ensure they have the right information and knowledge at the right time to exercise authority properly.


You will develop a robust and effective internal project management and communication structure with the operational teams and an information management and control system that ensures all parties have timely access to all information relevant to their tasks and the projects objectives and status.


The ability to use Microsoft Project and relative project IT systems essential. It is key that the successful individual has good experience of project planning, programme techniques and operational experience of managing budgets.


This role is an immediate requirement and will be paid at a daily rate on a weekly basis. It is essential to be able to drive due to the campus location outside of the city centre.
