Principal Designer / CDM Consultant
£270 per day
Riverview are delighted to be working with a Higher Education organisation to appoint a Principal Designer / CDM Consultant on an interim basis for a minimum 1-year contract.
The Principal designer / CDM has the important role of influencing how risks to health and safety are managed throughout various project and construction work on this diverse campus. These design decisions made during the pre-construction phase will have a significant influence in ensuring the project is delivered in a way that secures the health and safety of everyone affected by the work.
The role responsibilities include but are not limited to;
Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the pre-construction phase.
Help and advise the organisation in bringing together pre-construction information, and provide the information designers and contractors need to carry out their duties.
Work with any other designers on the project to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks to anyone affected by the work and, where that is not possible, take steps to reduce or control those risks.
Ensure that everyone involved in the pre-construction phase communicates and cooperates, coordinating their work wherever required.
Liaise with the principal contractor, keeping them informed of any risks that need to be controlled during the construction phase.
Education / Qualifications:
Must have a professional or vocational qualification in construction or design
Engineering and design:Technical and relevant sector knowledge;
Ability to undertake multidisciplinary design reviews, including large, complex projects, where applicable;
Chartered membership of a relevant institution;
Health & Safety:An understanding of how H&S is managed through the design process, as well as whole-life health and safety through design and construction;
Demonstrate knowledge and experience of construction health and safety risks;
Membership of a relevant institution.
Good working knowledge and experience of CDM Regulations;
Demonstrate management and coordination skills required of a principal designer;
Confidence to challenge designs
This opportunity has arisen as the client has decided to bring the management of the extensive construction work in-house, therefore, whilst currently it is for a 1-year contract, there is a strong likelihood this role will be made permanent.
The role is based in Surrey so a local individual would benefit from a reduced commute whilst being involved in challenging and extensive project construction work.
